Alex Woods Head Coach of Muddy Mountain Biking MTB

ALEX - HEAD COACH

Alex has been obsessed with bikes for as long as he can remember. Growing up around all kinds of bikes - from mountain bikes to motorbikes - riding has always been a huge part of his life and identity. In his early twenties, he traveled across Europe on his motorbike, combining adventure, independence and a love of exploring on two wheels. He later qualified in MIAS mountain bike coaching in Italy - a globally recognised mountain bike instructor award scheme and has competed in tournaments and events around the world. While he jokes that he’s “too old for tricks now”, his real passion is passing on his love of biking to the next generation.

At Muddy MTB, Alex brings energy, encouragement and a huge depth of riding experience to every session. He loves helping children build confidence, resilience and technical skills, whether they’re complete beginners or already fearless on the trails. Above all, he wants every child to leave sessions smiling, muddy and excited to get back on their bike again.

Liz Woods, safe guarding officer of Muddy Mountain Biking MTB

LIZ - SAFE GUARDING OFFICER

Liz is mum to bike-mad Raff and George, and wife to equally bike-mad Alex — so life outside Muddy MTB usually revolves around muddy trails, bike parts and weekends outdoors.

At Muddy, Liz’s role is all about making sure every child has the best possible experience. She works closely with the coaching team to create a supportive, encouraging and inclusive environment where children can grow in confidence, develop skills and most importantly, enjoy riding their bikes.

Liz is also Muddy MTB’s Safeguarding Officer, helping to ensure the wellbeing, safety and happiness of all children attending sessions. She is passionate about nurturing young riders, supporting families and helping every child feel welcome, valued and proud of what they achieve on and off the trails.

Muddy MTB Assistant Mountain Bike Coach Josh

JOSH - ASSISTANT COACH

Josh is one of the friendly faces helping to keep Muddy MTB sessions running smoothly. A passionate rider with a love for mountain biking and trail riding, he enjoys helping younger riders grow in confidence and feel part of the team.

Currently studying A Levels in Physics, Electronics and Geography at Dr Challoner’s Grammar School, Josh has a strong interest in engineering, problem solving and anything hands-on. He has already completed engineering work experience with AS Aerospace, reflecting his curiosity for how things work both on and off the trails.

As an Assistant Coach, Josh brings patience, enthusiasm and plenty of encouragement to sessions. He’s especially good at supporting younger or less confident riders, helping them feel comfortable, included and proud of their progress while making sure everyone has fun along the way.
